This has not been a good few weeks for Quimby and I.
I was outside with him, and he was doing his usual freak out thing, like he always does. I was actually filming him, when out of nowhere he is limping. Then there was blood lots of it. Long story short, I took him to the vet, as the large pad on his front right paw was sliced almost completely in half, and there was no way it was going to heal without stitches.
He was all drugged up for the first week, but once the meds were running low, I came home and found he had got out of his collar and his boot. Of course he had licked his paw clean, which meant licking out the dissolving stitches. That meant another trip to the vet, and another round of surgery. They had me bring him in a few days later to check the wound and re-wrap it. Totally could have wrapped it myself, but they charged $36 for it, despite the fact that my special lady friend had to help them!
I’ve been checking his wound nightly to make sure it’s not bleeding, but last night there was blood. Upon removal of the bandage, the smell was overpowering. Just really, really bad. So he will be going back, I hope it’s nothing.
I’ve written an 80′s hair band parody song called “Backyard Dog” that I will be offering in order to help raise some money to help cover the cost of the bills, which are over $1000 at this time. If you want to help out, you can donate below. Also be sure to watch the hilarious video for backyard dog.
So, I wanted to post a final donation amount on the Quimby’s raffle! All in all I would say it was a complete success. I managed to solicit around $650 in donations/raffle ticket sales. The winner of the Patriots tickets could not make it to the game, so I was instructed to sell the tickets. I managed to sell them for $150 the day before the game (just under face). This brings the total amount raised to a shocking $800! While this did not cover the cost of his entire surgery, it covered about 75% of it! The rest we were able to afford ourselves.
Of course, I can not thank you all enough. Quimby doesn’t really understand why he can’t be outside playing, but in a month he will be back and hopefully better than ever!
Pog and Dog photos are going to officially start back up in the new year. Until then, I’m going to go a little photoshop crazy.
A massive mega thanks are in order to everyone who donated for Quimby’s surgery fund. We managed to raise over $600 for the boy’s surgery, and raffle off some outstanding prizes as well!
A HUGE thank you goes out to the following businesses who donated:
-Carrying a 55 lb dog is not like carrying a 55 lb weight. Weights don’t generally move around and try to run off when you try to pick them up.
-Whatever pain killer Quimby is taking must be really good, cause half a dose knocks him out for hours. He will most likely need more of this, and that is unfortunate, considering a dose costs around $10.
-Quimby wants to play- and will jump onto the couch and play with the cats if you turn your back on him for 3 seconds.
-I need to go for a run before I explode. I can’t imagine how Quimby must be feeling. He probably wants to run more than I do. It saddens me that I can’t take him with me, but I gotta get back on the pavement.
-I am more tired than I should be considering I stayed in all weekend.
Still accepting donations for Quimby! The big day is going to be tomorrow!
Quimby had his surgery yesterday. This was removed from his leg:
Yes, the surgeon wore leather gloves.
Quimby is not happy, at all. He’s 8 months old. He wants to frolic and play and pounce. Not be all laid up and sad looking.
Under the bandages he had epic stitches. I feel his pain. I also feel my pain, as I was awake for a large portion of the evening. I’d stay awake for a week if it meant he would be all better though. Still accepting donations! It wasn’t cheap surgery, but it was less than expected which is good!
